Max Basics To Get The Ball Rolling is workshop for developing basic skills in Max 8 to seed ideas for future creative works, installations and sonification. Max8 is a visual programming language for the specialized needs of artists, educators, and researchers working with audio, visual media, and physical computing.
Participants will be led through developing beginner patches in Max 8 with a focus on finding entrance points for future self-learning. As developing skills in Max is a long process this workshop will serve as a "drop in the bucket" for prospective learners. Max can be used in a wide range of fields and has the potential to significantly augment anyone's creative practice. A hope is that participants will eventually be able to use these skills to develop installation pieces that could be presented at future festivals.
A key value in learning Max is its potential for interdisciplinary collaborations and public engagement. Who is this workshop good for? Experimental musicians, research practitioners, installation artists, video artists, hobbyists, anyone who's into creative programming, etc.
