- Artist Talk - An-Laurence Higgins - Come Closer: Mending a Broken Story Through a Collective Narrative
- Friday June 11, 2021
Artist and musician An-Laurence will talk about the creative process at the origin of the story-telling solo performance “Come Closer, I’ll tell you what I forgot”, a work embodying the lost memory of transnational adoptees from China born under the birth planning policy (1979-2016). Mixing autoethnography, collective narrative identities, and feminist art performance, “Come Closer” stands for the recognition of Chinese adoptees’ experiences and mothers and families who suffered from relinquishing or losing a child to the 35-year-long policy.
Due to the current pandemic, An-Laurence created a website version of the work, which you can view here.
In addition to the primary installation, An-Laurence will be presenting a mail art component to this project. Cick here to sign up for the mail art component.
The first iteration of the performance took place on May 15, 2021, as a livestream performance, as part of Festival Accès Asie. An-Laurence would like to warmly thank Festival Accès Asie and Centre Oboro to have made this work’s first presentation possible through their joint Intervalles production residency.
To enjoy from the comfort of where ever you may be.
