Kate Hamill

Visual Artist Fredericton, NB

Kate is a doctoral student and visual artist living, working, and playing on the unsurrendered and unceded traditional lands of the Wolastoqiyik peoples. Through all of her work, she seeks to understand how art practice can create identity and belonging through self-expression while simultaneously demonstrating the intersectional ways in which we experience our surrounding environment. This project combines visual and textile art forms to highlight a contemporary interpretation of traditional Maritime craft. Punch hooking, a modern take on rug hooking, allows for 2D visual art to take on a new texturized appearance. Punch Drunk Drama Queen will be punch hooked directly onto its 36x48 frame and will incorporate dramatic colours and shapes in an abstract way.
