Janice Wright Cheney

Visual Artist - Installation Fredericton, NB

Janice Wright Cheney is a visual artist based in Fredericton, NB, where she currently teaches at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Her practice explores representations of the human relationship with nature, particularly animals. Using a variety of mixed media — especially found objects as well as taxidermy and recycled fur — her sculptural work often depicts transgressions made by various animals into the human world, drawing attention to the instability of our presumed detachment from nature. Current projects explore wilderness as a lost environment, and consider the absence of the animal in our present global situation. Recent exhibitions include: Sardinia (2016), Tides Institute and Museum of Art, Eastport, ME; Cellar (2015), Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge; Folklore and Other Panics (2015), The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery, St. John’s; Muse (2014), Banff Park Museum, Banff; Oh Canada, MASS MoCA, North Adams Massachusetts, (2012)
