ocean charter of values

east coast, canada

Born and raised on the solitary shores of Brier Island, Nova Scotia, Nicholas Laugher has always channelled the destitution, bleakness and struggle of the province into his art. For years he’s backed up Montreal psychedelic doomjazz combo Year of Glad, as well as Saint John singer-songwriter David R. Elliott, touring back and forth across Canada, but always being drawn back to the east. Now, with his solo project Ocean Charter of Values, he spins that melancholic exhumation of maritime identity into sprawling ambient pieces, bleak ballads and vitriolic indie-rock lamentations. Running the gamut of music styles, Ocean Charter of Values is a genre-defying project that sees Laugher at the helm for the first time, spinning an emotional web of hope, sadness, serenity, and everything in-between.
